“From Food Vendor to Tech Proffessional: How DigiGirls Transformed My Life and Career”

OLUFUNMILAYO OMOYEMI LAWAL

I was inspired to pursue a career in tech because of the freedom it gives me as a mother. Acquiring tech skills allows me to work from the comfort of my home and serve people outside my country, and the pay is good enough that I can take good care of my family.
I learned about DigiGirls from one of my mentors, took the test, and made it into the program.

The biggest challenge I faced was meeting up with the classes as a food vendor and mother. I had to take my classes late in the night or when I was less busy in my shop.

The most valuable skill I learned from the program was email marketing. It has helped me enormously in my new role as a virtual assistant and with my responsibilities to the volunteer groups I work with.

Life after DigiGirls training has been fun. I am better equipped, and I have started training a few teenagers around me.

I am no longer afraid or intimidated by email marketing and SEO optimization.

Thank you to Cybersafe Foundation and UK Aid.
