“How DigiGirls carved a new career path for me and empowered me to soar in Social Media Management”

Meet Morolake Akinbanji-Ola, lyadunni, a DigiGirls cohort 2 beneficiary. She shares her inspiring story of commitment to chasing and achieving one’s dreams.
Before the DigiGirls training, I didn’t have any certification in Social Media management, and I felt reluctant to apply for jobs at that time because I somehow believed that the
certification was my key to getting a job in the field. Before and during the training, I was working with a company in another field- customer service-and also running an online business, but I really wanted a certification in Social Media Management. Since 2019 or thereabouts, I have worked with a few brands as their social media manager while leveraging my Google digital skills but I knew deep down that the certification would pave the way for me and give me the confidence I truly desire.
During the DigiGirls training, I had a positive experience being introduced to new digital skills and tools. I did enjoyed all of my classes with the facilitators. I did face some challenges. It was a bit difficult keeping up with the learning pace at the beginning, but with my persistence, dedication, and commitment, I was able to overcome these challenges.
Life after the training has been good and a bit challenging. After my training, I was still working in the customer service field, and I really wanted to switch to the marketing department of the company I worked for at that time because I could still make use of my social media management skills there, but it didn’t happen. Four months after the training, I got a new job with an Austrian fashion magazine company as their social media manager and content creator. I presented my CV in social media management and
certification in social media management from CyberSafe. This period was a really big flex for me. It made me develop this confidence within myself because I was now able to apply for jobs within and outside Nigeria. Some of the skills I acquired during the training have really contributed greatly to my career journey.
