“How DigiGirls Sparked My Journey into Tech and Unleashed a World of Creative Possibilities”
DAKO MARTHA QUEEN
I was inspired to pursue a career in tech because the future is digital, and I wanted to be at the forefront. It was during my quest for opportunities in the tech world that I stumbled upon the DigiGirls program, a beacon of hope I found on a website called “Opportunities for Africans.” It seemed like a golden ticket to my tech dreams, and without hesitation, I applied, envisioning it as the ideal starting point for my journey.
The path to a tech career was not without its challenges, and my most formidable hurdle came after choosing my specialized path in graphic design. The software I needed, Adobe Photoshop, proved to be a major roadblock. I spent a small fortune on data, perhaps more than 20GB, trying to download a compatible version for my laptop. It was a struggle that tested my patience and resolve. However, I was not alone in this battle. The incredible DigiGirl community and our lovely SA proved to be my saving grace. They shared download links, offered technical advice, and provided moral support, which helped me conquer this daunting challenge.
Through the DigiGirls program, I acquired a valuable skill in graphic design. It was like unlocking a door to a realm of creativity that I had never ventured into before. Armed with this newfound skill, I was not only able to design captivating flyers for my organization but also open up opportunities for myself. It was a testament to the practical and hands-on knowledge I gained through the DigiGirls program.
Life after the DigiGirls training has been nothing short of colourful and exhilarating. I find myself constantly inspired, and my mind is flooded with design concepts that my eager hands are itching to bring to life. I want to design anything and everything I lay my eyes on, and my future in tech is looking brighter than ever.
