“How DigiGirls Creates a Pathway to a Career in Tech and Fueled My Personal Growth”
GRACE OGOR
My journey with CyberSafe Foundation and the DigiGirls program has been nothing short of amazing and exhilarating, all at once. I am a strong believer that no knowledge is a waste, so I open myself to new knowledge whenever I can or am given an opportunity. This is one of the inspiring factors that led me to be part of DigiGirls. The world is constantly evolving, and times are changing. The only way to exist is to move with that change. I’d like to believe that my coming into contact with the DigiGirls program was divinely orchestrated, seeming like an answered prayer. I had earlier heard about the program from a relative, and shortly after that, I saw a flyer on WhatsApp about the ongoing application. And from there, my tech journey was born.
The day I received the mail confirming my acceptance, I leapt for joy to be given a slot. It is safe to say that the entire learning process was overwhelming at one point for me, who had no background whatsoever in tech. I was also finding it difficult to balance activities from the program with other personal commitments. I often lost sleep because I was trying to meet one deadline after another. I became physically stressed. In the long run, I figured out that the earlier I get tasks done, the better for me, and this strategy helped me.
I have learned a lot from this program, invaluable lessons that can be applied in life. A takeaway for me is to be confident and believe in myself. This has been helpful because sometimes I downplay myself. I’ve also learned that there is no destination, but a journey of continuous learning and acquiring new skills.
I have nothing but gratitude for the DigiGirls program. In the past few months, I have experienced personal growth and improvement. I hope to keep the flag flying high and make a positive impact wherever I find myself.
Thank you, CyberSafe Foundation and UK Aid.
